Doctor’s define impotence, (also called erectile dysfunction, or E.D.) as the consistent inability to sustain and erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. It is more common than some people realize, affecting somewhere between 10 and 15 million American men, becoming more prevalent with age.
Until the early 1970s, experts thought underlying problems in the psyche caused most erection problems. Today, the medical community recognizes that most impotence is actually caused by a disease, and injury, or a medication with impotence-related side effects.
Symptoms Of Impotence
- Inability to get an erection is usually the only complaint.
- In cases of penile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and spermatorrhoea may be found.
- Depression often accompanies impotence. Severe depression can lead to impotence and impotence can lead to depression. It works both ways.
Natural Impotence Treatment
Take your time. As you get older, it may take a longer period of genital stimulation to get an erection.
Make sure your medication is not the root of the problem. It could also be those over the counter antihistamines, diuretics, or sedatives you’re using. “Drug induced impotence is more common in men over 50″.
Other drugs that cause problems are cocaine, marijuana, opiates, heroin, morphine, amphetamines, and barbiturates.
Settle down on the alcohol, I think it was Shakespeare that said in Macbeth, “alcohol provokes desire but takes away the performance”. Over time alcohol can cause hormonal imbalances. Chronic alcohol abuse can also cause nerve and liver damage. Liver damage results in an excessive amount of female hormones in men. Without the right proportion of testosterone to other hormones, you won’t achieve normal erections.
Take care of your arteries. The penis is a vascular organ. The same thing that clogs your arteries-dietary cholesterol and saturated fat-also effect bloodflow to the penis. All men over age 38 have some narrowing of the arteries to the penis. High cholesterol is probably one of the main causes of impotence in this country.
Quit smoking. Nicotine can be a blood vessel constrictor.
Being in a relaxed frame of mind is crucial to maintaining an erection. Your nervous system operated in two modes. When the sympathetic nerve network is dominant, your body is literally on alert. Adrenal hormones prepare you to fight or take flight. Nerves shuttle your blood away from your digestive system and penis and into your muscles. You can turn on your sympathetic nervous system just by being too anxious. For some the fear of failure is so overwhelming that it floods the body with norepinephrine, an adrenal hormone. That’s the opposite of what you need to have an erection.
Stay away from caffeine and certain questionable substances.
