Hot Flash Remedies

One of the best natural remedies for hot flashes is exercise. It is also great for your heart and bones. Regular exercise reduces the rate of night sweats. In addition, it helps you get rid of menopausal symptoms, helps you sleep at night, keeps bones strong, and maintains cardiovascular health. Try to make it a goal to workout at least three to five times a week for thirty to forty-five minutes.

When recommending an exercise for menopausal women, there is one problem. Women who are experiencing hormonal changes usually do not want anything to do with sweating. However, there are exercises that can fix this problem such as swimming, yoga, or Pilates. Any exercise that improves flexibility without building bulk is among the best hot flash remedies.

Do not believe the myth that it is unsafe to go on and off hormone replacement therapy also known as (HRT). If hot flashes and night sweats are becoming a problem for you night and day, then trying HRT for a couple of months would be fine. If it is not working for you, or you just do not like it, stopping the medicine would not be a problem. However, if you decide you want to try once again, that is ok too.

Additionally, if you plan to stop estrogen, it is recommended that you do so in a cool month. Stopping in the middle of the summer during ninety-degree weather is not a good time to be experiencing hot flashes and night sweats.

Some women do an exercise called deep belly breathing for hot flash relief. In order to do this, lie flat on your back with your hands on your stomach. Picture your stomach as a balloon that fills with air as you breathe in and deflate as you breathe out. Every time you experience hot flashes repeat this six to eight times a minute.

If you cannot sleep at night because of night sweats, try drinking a warm glass of milk, or taking a warm bath. Keeping a clear mind and forgetting about the day’s happenings will help you to relax to where you can get back to sleep.

In the case of bad night sweats, stay away from flannel, satin, or cotton-polyester blends which have a tendency to trap moisture to your body. Instead, use all-cotton sheets and pillowcases that funnel moisture away from your body.

Keeping a fan next to your bed at night while you sleep is also good. Installing a ceiling fan would also be beneficial.
