Home Remedy for Varicose Veins

Most people do not see varicose veins as a disease. But varicose veins is a disease with a cosmetic aspect. People who have this disease know all to well that these visible veins often come with achy, tired, listless legs.

The condition is not usually life threatening, so there’s no reason to panic or rush to a doctor. If you have varicose veins, however, you — and your legs — will be knowing how to manage them.

Symptoms Of Varicose Veins

- An ache in the affected area

- Swelling of the feet and ankles due to the fluid from stagnant blood leaking through the walls of the veins into surrounding tissues

- A feeling of heaviness, tiredness, and aching, especially at the end of the day or after periods of prolonged standing

- Persistent itching of the skin over the affected area

- Changes in skin color-the skin over the affected area may turn a brownish gray color, especially around the ankle

Treating Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are weakened veins that lack the strength they once had to return blood to the heart. Veins in the legs are the most susceptible, for they are farthest and straight downhill from the heart. You can make their job easier by using a couch, pillows, or an easy chair, raise your legs above hip level whenever they ache, and the discomfort should go away.

Try raising the foot of your bed several inches. Consult your doctor before you do this.

Wear comfortable shoes.

Stay away from tight clothes.

Do not smoke.

Try walking at least 30 minutes to one hour everyday. Prolonged sitting or standing can cause problems in the legs because the blood tends to pool.

A hot and cold shower helps. While showering, alternate between hot and cold water on your legs.

Watch your weight. Added body weight means more pressure on your legs, one reason pregnant women often get varicose veins. Keep your weight down.
