Ice helps reduce the swelling, so it is a good choice when stiffness settles in.
After using ice to reduce the swelling, heat is wonderful soother. Try a heating pad or a hot shower.
Releive muscle tension by applying moderate pressure to the neck for 3 minutes.
Try flaxseed. Flaxseed contains alpha linolenic acid, a substance similar to the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish that can prevent joint swelling. Great for neck pain
Sit in a firm chair.
Support your lower back. Roll a towel and place it against the small of your back when sitting. This is good for neck pain
Sleep on a firm mattress. A lot of nek problems begin, and worsen, with poor sleeping habits that put the spine out of alignment.
Sleep without a pillow. A lot of people with neck problems feel better sleeping flat.
Do not sleep on your stomach. This is bad for your back and neck. Sleep in the fetal position on your side with your knees up toward your chest.
