What Causes A Yeast Infection?

Yeast infections are a result of an over growth of a fungus called Candida albicans, also known as yeast. Normally, this fungus is kept under control by other organisms that also inhabit our bodies. A great example of this is the way salt keeps yeast in check in the bread dough. However, when the conditions are favorable, Candida multiplies, which causes the symptoms we all know that is associated with a yeast infection. According to statistics, about seventy-five percent of women will get at least one yeast infection, and more than forty-five percent will have two or more at some time in their lives.

A more serious cause is an unbalanced diet. According to traditional Chinese medicine, this condition is categorized as a liver, spleen, and digestive system problem. Gas and bloating is an outcome of the liver and spleen failing to regulate the flow of important digestive enzymes. Particularly, the buildup of abdominal fluid and gas will put stress on the sensitive nerves and meridians in the gastrointestinal tract, giving increase to a number of inconsistent emotional reactions ranging from anger and anxiety to depression. Therefore, there is a strong association with hypoglycemic reactions in such individuals.

One who overindulges in cold, raw foods, and lacks in proper protein balance can give rise to the Candida overgrowth condition. Another cause is eating too many rich or unnatural foods.

What are symptoms of yeast infection?

Symptoms of a yeast infection include moodiness, extreme food sensitivities with gas and bloating after meals, depression, low energy, and extreme PMS symptoms in women.

Diarrhea is an increase in the frequency and fluidity of the stools, caused by too much water in the intestine. Usually, the intestine processes an estimated 10 quarts of water daily, allowing only three to four ounces to reach the rectum. When water fails to be absorbed from the intestine, or is drawn into the intestine, diarrhea results.

Have you ever wondered what causes diarrhea? Well, here are several causes.

1. Failure of digestion – An example consists of a lack of lactase, which inhibits the digestion of lactose (in the form of milk or sugar), draws water into the intestine, and causes diarrhea. Diseases of the pancreas and malnutrition are the underlying causes.

2. Sensitivity to certain foods – An example of this is the gluten of certain grains (wheat, rye) has a toxic action on the villi of the intestinal mucosa, leading to, among other problems, diarrhea.

3. Infections of the digestive tract – Ailments such as the stomach flu or gastroenteritis may be due to viruses and bacteria in children, and normally to bacteria or parasites in adults.

4. Toxic substances – Eating poisonous mushrooms, or other toxic substances may cause severe gastroenteritis and diarrhea.

5. Certain medications – A number of medications act on the bowel wall. Antibiotics are among the most common. They frequently kill off good microorganisms in the intestine, thereby, upsetting the balance of organisms, which is a cause of diarrhea.

6. Emotional or stress related diarrhea – Anxiety and emotional stress excite the muscles and mucous glands in the lower colon, causing increased mucus and strong contractions that result in severe diarrhea.

7. Diseases and disorders of the digestive tract – There are quite few diseases that can cause diarrhea, including ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, sprue, irritable colon, pancreatitis, and cancer of the large intestine.

Symptoms of Diarrhea may differ from mildly loose stools to violent purges, accompanied with cramping and abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, and blood-tinged stools.

On any given day, about half the women and a third of the men in America are trying to shed pounds. That’s 106 million dieters! We spend more than $30 billion every year on diet products, programs, and paraphernalia. Yet from the looks of our growing obesity epidemic, we don’t seem to be getting our money’s worth.

As the population has grown heavier, diseases related to excess weight have also risen. An estimated 300,000 adults die each year from diabetes, heart diseases, stroke, high blood pressure, and other obesity-related complications, second to only tobacco-related deaths.

Best Weight Loss Plan

Use your mind – Many weight-loss efforts fail from our improper mind set.

Make changes you can live with – Even if you cut out fast food, and other tempting foods while your losing weight, you’ll need to learn that you can enjoy all foods, including those, in moderation for the rest of your life.

Become aware of your eating behavior.

Exercise is very important when it comes to weight-loss. Walking is by far the best exercise you can do. Try walking at least one hour everyday, for faster weight-loss — Break your walks into two 30 minute walks.

Do not eat after 6:30pm.

Make breakfast your largest meal, lunch your second largest, and dinner your smallest.

Go to bed before 10:00pm, going to bed early stops you from having the urge to eat late at night.

Drink water, water, and more water. Drink water until your urine is white. If your urine is not white — your not drinking enough water.

Stay away from fruit juices and eat the fruit itself. Fruit juices are just fruits stripped of it’s fiber.

Quit smoking (if you smoke)

Natural Cures for Weight Loss

Think long-term. Shortcuts and quickie plans never last.

Do it yourself. Improving your health and energy are better motivations than a coming class reunion.

Prepare the way. Don’t rush into a diet before you are ready for long-term changes. Keeping a diet journal will help you become more aware of what you eat and why.

Think fruits, grains, legumes, and vegetables. In the standard American diet more than 50 percent of calories come from fat, sugar and alcohol.

Control portion sizes. Use a smaller plate. Serve yourself smaller portions and put away leftovers before you eat. At restaurants, ask for a doggie bag instead of cleaning your plate.

Eat three meals a day. Eating at regular intervals will not send your body into a deprivation (starvation) mode, which may cause you to eat and binge more.

Maintain your program.

Exercise.

Don’t overdo it.

Stay active, walk the dog, gardening, yard work, household chores, sports, bicycling, and playing with kids are all productive activities.

Have you ever heard of the saying “toads give you warts”? Well, you can toss that notion out the door, because it is not true. In fact, a virus called the human papillomavirus causes these unsightly growths. There are currently 75 strains of this virus. Plane warts, plantar warts, and common warts are all a result of various strains of this virus.

Common warts are known to grow on the hands; however, they can also pop up on the face, neck, and feet. Plantar warts are known to grow on the soles of the feet, and can be painful. Plane warts or flat warts mainly affect the face. These warts are flesh colored and flat, hence the name “flat warts”.

Warts can be removed by a doctor using surgical procedures or by simply destroying them. Some of the methods a doctor will use include vaporizing them with a laser, freezing them with liquid nitrogen, or just cutting them away.

Natural Remedies For Warts

Do not do anything. Experts say that 40 to 50 percent of all warts disappear on their own, usually within 2 years. However, if your wart begins to spread to nearby areas, then it is time to take some type of action.

Vitamin A. Some naturalists have had success by putting vitamin A directly on the wart. Vitamin A can be found in capsule form from either fish oil or fish liver oil. Break open a capsule, squeeze the contents onto the wart, and rub it in. This treatment might not work for some, because different warts react to different things.

Vitamin C. Crush a vitamin C tablet and make a paste using water and then put it on the wart. Then proceed to cover the wart with a band-aid making sure that the paste does not rub off. Although this method is not 100 percent, it is believed that the acidity of the vitamin C kills the virus that caused the wart.

Try to stay away from moisture. Moisture is the best friend of a wart — it thrives on it. Plantar warts can be avoided by keeping your feet dry. Changing your sox three to four times daily can help with the banishing of a plantar wart without chemicals. As you change your sox apply foot powder to keep moisture out.

A nonprescription product works well. Over-the-counter commercial remedies’ containing salicylic acid softens the wart while it dissolves it. You can get these remedies in ointment, pad, gel, and liquid form. If you have diabetes or some type of immune disease, do not use them.

Use a pad on the wart. I personally got rid of my wart using an over-the-counter pad containing 40 percent salicylic acid. It works fairly well for plantar warts also. Be very careful; make sure you put the pad directly on the wart and not the skin. If the acid gets in contact with the skin, you could get an ulcer around the wart.

The ointment works well too. Another over-the-counter remedy is a 60 percent salicylic acid ointment. Before using, soak the wart in warm water for about 10 minutes. Put a drop of ointment on the wart after drying it then cover it with a bandage.

Herbal Warts Remedies

Celandine – This herb is a member of the poppy family. It grows in moist soil along the edges of forests. The orange-yellow sap contained in both the roots and above ground parts provides a remedy for warts and other skin problems.

Black Birch Bark – This bark contains antiviral compounds and salicylic acid. It contains the same active ingredient used in many of the nonprescription over-the-counter remedies. However, the levels of the acid are much lower.

Bloodroot – European settlers used this herbs rust-colored sap to remove warts. The chemicals contained in this herb irritate the skin and dissolves rough skin that is a trademark of warts.

Piñon Blanco – This is a Peruvian shrub with antiviral properties.

Dandelion – The stems and leaves of this weed produces a milky latex that gets rid of warts.

White Cedar – The antiviral compounds in this tree is known to remove warts.

Pineapple – This fruit contains a substance called bromelain that may help to remove tough skin associated with warts.

Banana – According to herbalists, banana peel has helped many people eliminate their warts. Cut a small circle out of a banana peel and apply to the wart, then cover with a bandage to hold in place. Apply peel every day until the wart is gone.

When to call a doctor for a wart

If you cannot tell that it is a wart, see a doctor. It is important for you to know what you are dealing with. Moles, corns, calluses, and cancerous legions can all be mistaken for a wart.

To be specific, warts are pale, skin-colored growths, with a rough hard surface. In addition, they have even borders, and blackened surface capillaries. Normal skin lines do not cross a warts surface. Warts are very superficial growths, and they do not grow all the way down to the bone, according to many legends.

Most people do not see varicose veins as a disease. But varicose veins is a disease with a cosmetic aspect. People who have this disease know all to well that these visible veins often come with achy, tired, listless legs.

The condition is not usually life threatening, so there’s no reason to panic or rush to a doctor. If you have varicose veins, however, you — and your legs — will be knowing how to manage them.

Symptoms Of Varicose Veins

- An ache in the affected area

- Swelling of the feet and ankles due to the fluid from stagnant blood leaking through the walls of the veins into surrounding tissues

- A feeling of heaviness, tiredness, and aching, especially at the end of the day or after periods of prolonged standing

- Persistent itching of the skin over the affected area

- Changes in skin color-the skin over the affected area may turn a brownish gray color, especially around the ankle

Treating Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are weakened veins that lack the strength they once had to return blood to the heart. Veins in the legs are the most susceptible, for they are farthest and straight downhill from the heart. You can make their job easier by using a couch, pillows, or an easy chair, raise your legs above hip level whenever they ache, and the discomfort should go away.

Try raising the foot of your bed several inches. Consult your doctor before you do this.

Wear comfortable shoes.

Stay away from tight clothes.

Do not smoke.

Try walking at least 30 minutes to one hour everyday. Prolonged sitting or standing can cause problems in the legs because the blood tends to pool.

A hot and cold shower helps. While showering, alternate between hot and cold water on your legs.

Watch your weight. Added body weight means more pressure on your legs, one reason pregnant women often get varicose veins. Keep your weight down.

Ulcers are very common; in fact, about four million American adults have an ulcer. In addition, there are approximately three-hundred and fifty thousand new cases diagnosed each year. As common as they are, some experts do not understand why more people do not get them more often.

Digestion begins in the mouth and continues in the stomach. The stomach must shower foods with acid to allow it to pass through the intestines for further digestion. The acid in the stomach is strong enough to damage the lining along with the duodenum. The duodenum is the part of the small intestines that is closest to the stomach. This acid is so strong that it is able to break down protein and fat. The only reason that the acid does not do us harm is because of a protective, sponge like mucous lining that resists the acidic assault.

Most ulcers are small painful sores that are most likely about the size of a pencil eraser. These sores occur when corkscrew-shaped bacterium called Helicobacter pylori bores through the lining of the duodenum or stomach and clears the way for acid to scar and damage the delicate sensitive tissue underneath. Similar problems can be caused by over-the-counter medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen. These medications although common are notorious for stripping away the stomach’s protective lining.

Fortunately, ulcers go away after one to three weeks after the person stops taking the tissue-damaging medication. If bacteria caused the ulcer, it will have to be treated in order for the ulcer to heal.

Home Remedies for Ulcers

During ulcer flare-ups, take an antacid. This is the quickest way to relieve the pain according to experts. Antacids contain calcium, aluminum, magnesium, or a mixture. However, each of these ingredients can be problematic to certain people. Therefore, choose an antacid that you are comfortable taking.

Treat ulcers with over-the-counter medicines like H2 blockers, which are among the best treatments. These medicines include Pepcid AC, Tagamet HB 200, Axid AR, and Zantac 75. They have an effect on the acid producing cells in the stomach; therefore, reducing pain and discomfort along with allowing for speedy healing.

Take Pepto-Bismol. The main ingredient in this pink liquid is bismuth subsalicylate. It protects the stomach lining and the duodenum, while it decreases the amount of H. pylori in the digestive tract.

Stop drinking orange juice for as long as you can, or until the ulcer heals.

Avoid milk at all cost. Do not believe the old practice of drinking milk to soothe the problem. Long ago doctors encouraged people to drink milk as a remedy. The thinking behind this practice is that milk’s smooth texture would coat and soothe the ulcer. Now we know that the protein and the calcium in milk actually encourage acid production making the ulcer worst.

Although you should avoid milk, yogurt however, can soothe ulcers. In fact, there are studies that show that men and women who eat lots of yogurt reduced their risk by 18 percent. The friendly bacteria present in yogurt may be the therapeutic substance. Get the yogurt that contains Lactobacillus bulgaricus and L. acidophilus live cultures.

Eat lots of garlic. Garlic is a natural antibiotic, and it is believed to inhibit the growth of H. pylori, the bacterium that causes ulcers.

According to the Journal of the American Dental Association, a large majority of adults have gingivitis. Gingivitis is the first sign of periodontal disease and the major reason adults lose their teeth. Gingivitis is simply inflammation of the gums. Healthy gums are usually a pale red color, but with gingivitis, it turns bluish red. During brushing, the tender gums have a propensity to bleed easily.

What Causes Gingivitis?

The direct cause of gingivitis is the buildup of a bacterial substance called plaque on parts of the teeth that are not easy to clean. Plaque frequently builds up between the teeth and along the edges of the gums. If it is not allowed to accumulate in one place, plaque is harmless, and is a normal substance inside the mouth. If allowed to accumulate in one place for long periods of time, the toxic products and enzymes that the bacteria produces irritates and inflames the surrounding tissues – in this case the gums. In addition, given time, the plaque can mineralize into tartar. Tartar is a hard white crust that causes further problems for your gums. Therefore, without proper dental treatment, and good oral hygiene, this duo of plaque and tartar, could deliver a knockout punch to your teeth. When this phenomenon occurs, it leads to advanced periodontitis, and eventually the loss of your teeth.

A major contribution to gingivitis and the loss of teeth is a result of inadequate dental hygiene. However, there are other factors to take note of; including stress, vitamin deficiency, oral contraceptives and other drugs, smoking, thyroid disease, diabetes, and habitual grinding and clenching of the teeth. Hormonal changes may also play a role. Gum inflammation; although temporary, also occur during puberty and pregnancy. Lastly, diet also plays a role. People who eat simple diets, which include natural, unprocessed foods, have no gum issues. Nevertheless, people who eat plenty of sugar and refined foods are normally the ones who develop gum problems.

Ways To Prevent Gingivitis And Periodontitis:

Eat a natural-food diet. In addition, rinse your mouth with water after every meal.

Flossing and brushing regularly is a great way to keep your gums and teeth healthy. While brushing, take the time to clean along and under the gum line.

Try finding natural toothpaste that contains natural ingredients like charcoal, baking soda, anise, myrrh, and goldenseal. Many people use oral-irrigation devices, which are good to remove food encased between the teeth. However, take notice that it does not remove plaque.

For a few minutes a day, scrape along the gum line and between the teeth with a toothpick. This action is very effective against plaque and it fortifies the gums, which prevents further infections by helping the gums to form a barrier against plaque.

Treating Gingivitis – How to Cure Gingivitis

Here are some things you can do if you already have gingivitis:

Brush, brush and brush again. Getting rid of gingivitis naturally will not happen if you do not brush and floss regularly and correctly. It is recommended that for at least three times a week, you take five to ten minutes to dedicate yourself to good oral hygiene.

The neglected area when we brush our teeth is where plaque starts. Brush at the gum line. Position your toothbrush at a forty-five degree angle to your teeth. This ensures that your brush cleans both your gums and your teeth.

Bleeding is a common symptom of gingivitis. To help control the bleeding, take vitamin C. However, vitamin C will not cure gingivitis. This information is based on a study done by the Western Nutrition Research Center in San Francisco.

Using Listerine is also beneficial in the treatment and prevention of gingivitis. In a study done by the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Listerine inhibited the development of plaque and reduced gingivitis.

Try using a three percent solution of hydrogen peroxide, mixing it half-and-half with water, and swishing it around your mouth for thirty seconds then spitting out. This will help to limit bacteria build up.

As mentioned earlier, eating a healthy natural diet is also very important in curing gingivitis. Eat a raw vegetable every day. Hard and fibrous foods clean and stimulate teeth and gums.

A baking soda and water solution is also beneficial. Mix plain baking soda with a little water, and apply it along the gum line with your finger. Then brush. Doing this polishes, neutralizes acidic bacterial wastes, and deodorizes, all in one-step.

Using an aloe gel to brush your teeth will reduce some plaque. Aloe is also a virulent healing agent.

Quit smoking and drinking.

Although doing these simple things could cure, reverse, and treat your gingivitis, it is still necessary to see a dentist.

Some people may already have periodontal disease, and may need medical attention. There are certain signs you do not want ignore. These signs include:

Bad breath that does not go away within twenty-four hours

Teeth seems to be getting longer – which is a sign that your gums are receding

Your mouth does not align right when you shut it

Your partial dentures fit differently

Pockets of pus begin to form between your teeth and gums

Your teeth begin to loosen and fall out.

In addition, if you follow all the steps above and put forth a really diligent effort at practicing good oral hygiene, but your gums still bleed and become sore, see your dentist.

Body odor is a result of two different types of sweat from two different types of sweat glands. The sweat glands in question are the eccrine and apocrine glands. These glands react and operate according to many factors that include heat, stress, anger, nervousness, and sexual excitement. The apocrine sweat glands release secretions that certain bacteria thrive on. When these bacteria grow and multiply, they produce an aroma that is a result of the breaking down of fluids in sweat.

Skin infections are also a cause of body odor. Athlete’s foot is one common skin infection that can cause bad body odor. However, diseases of the kidney and the liver could also be a cause of body odor. These conditions should be taken to a doctor immediately to ensure the best possible treatment. If yours persists, see a physician as soon as possible.

Reduce Body Odor Naturally

Sage – There are compounds in sage that helps to dry up perspiration. The oils found in sage are also antiseptic and antibiotic. Sage used on the skin lessens the body odor problem by perspiration or by infectious agents. Sage tea also helps to reduce excessive sweating.

Rosemary – Agents contained in this herb are antiseptic and antibiotic. Treat odor caused by perspiration by grounding the dry herb into a body powder. This powder is also effective on bacteria and fungus on the skin. You can also make a tea with rosemary and use it as a body wash.

Fennel – Fennel seeds have been used as a treatment for bad breath and body odor for centuries. Fennel works best with odors that originates in the intestines.

Here is an all-natural sweet smelling body powder that is great for treating body odor:

This powder can be used under the arm or wherever the smell is located.

½-cup cornstarch
½-cup baking soda
1-tablespoon ground sage
1-tablespoon ground rosemary

Mix ingredients together.

The mixture above is a great natural mixture to reduce body odor naturally.

Another contributor to body odor is a lack of zinc. If you think that you might be deficient in zinc, you might want to increase your intake of these foods: Spinach, whole grains, legumes, rice, and nuts.

People who suffer with tinnitus hear sounds in their heads as if the many sounds in the world are not enough. This condition is very irritating to its sufferers, because of constant noises heard such as clicking, roaring, ringing, or buzzing. Tinnitus sufferers continue to hear these voices even though there is no external sound.

According to doctors and audiologists, the cause of tinnitus is damage done to the microscopic hairs on auditory cells in the inner ear, which then causes the brain to produce its own sounds. The main cause of tinnitus is the constant extended exposure to loud ear-splitting music or other loud sounds. Hearing loss, middle-ear problems, and circulatory problems are all thought to be contributors to tinnitus.

According to statistics, over fifty million Americans experienced tinnitus at one point in their lives, while twelve million have it seriously enough to seek medical help for their condition. It can be treated, or eliminated by addressing underlying medical problems, or it sometimes goes away on its own. However, the main point of attack is to help people deal with the ongoing noise – and to prevent it from getting worse.

Tinnitus Home Remedies – Natural Remedies for Tinnitus

Try to avoid loud noises such as power motors, table saws, and of course loud music. These noises are just a few of the things that can wreak havoc on your hearing, thus, making tinnitus worse, by doing more damage to the auditory cells.

Always walk with earplugs if you know that you are going to be around loud ear-splitting sounds. You can pick up a good pair at the pharmacy, however, the earplugs that I recommend are the ones sold at music stores. These particular earplugs allow you to hear music or voices clearly, but at a somewhat reduced volume.

If you have long hair then it can be used as a noise buffer. Wearing thick hair over your ears could provide three to four decibels of protection. Although that might not sound like much, it could mean the difference between damage being done right away or having enough time to get away from the loud noise before damage occurs. This is mainly to help keep your tinnitus from getting worse.

Letting your ears rest could go a long way in preserving your hearing. Loud persistent noises are more likely to damage your hearing; therefore, stay away from loud noises for about sixteen hours after being exposed to extremely loud sounds.

Avoid foods such as chocolate, red wine, pickles, and other foods that are processed. These foods contain chemicals called sulfides, which may increase tinnitus in certain people.

Tinnitus is sometimes caused by Meniere’s disease, which results in excessive amounts of fluids in the ear. If your tinnitus is caused by this disease, you should reduce your sodium intake to two thousand milligrams a day.

Wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, and skin cancer are all dangers of getting too much sun exposure. The long-term effects of too much sun are well known by most people. However, accidental sunburn does occur from time to time. The sun’s rays that do all the damage are not filtered by cloudy skies. The sun’s rays are also reflected by water and snow, which increases your chances of getting sunburn during cooler seasons. The risk of sunburn also increases in high altitudes and southern locations. Some people forget to put on SPFs and bask in the sun for too long. Many people also get sunburn in the springtime, because they feel like it is safe. Therefore, always be vigilant because the sun’s rays can sneak up on you.

Home Remedies For Sunburn

Here are some common kitchen regulars that can be great soothers for sunburn.

Oatmeal – wrap oatmeal in gauze, then run cold water through it. Throw out the oatmeal and soak compresses in the liquid. Apply every 2 to 4 hours.

Fat-free milk – mix fat free milk with water and ice cubes, then compress for 15 to 20 minutes.

Cornstarch – add water to make a paste then apply it to the skin.

Lettuce – boil lettuce, then apply the water (let cool in the refrigerator) on the skin. Dip cotton balls into the liquid then rub it into skin gently.

Yogurt – apply it to sunburned areas.

Tea bags – soak in cool water then apply to skin.

Treatment For Sunburn – Sunburn Home Remedy With Herbs

Aloe – Aloe’s ability to soothe the skin when burnt is legendary. Drug and discount stores have creams with aloe as the main ingredient on the shelves right next to the sunscreen. The aloe plant is also anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal, and it speeds healing.

Tea – Green tea and black tea both are cooling to sunburns. Just wet a tea bag with cool water and apply to the burned area.

Witch hazel – Tightens swollen tissues, decreases inflammation, and soothes burns.

Calendula – Anti-inflammatory, astringent, antiseptic, and cooling, this plant promotes healing of mild burns.

Echinacea – The tea of this herb, when placed on the skin improves the healing of wounds and burns.

Plantain – Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, plantain contains the tissue binding substance allantoin.

St. John’s Wort – Anti-inflammatory, reduces pain, and speeds healing of wounds and minor burns.

A good remedy for sunburn that has withstood the test of time is vinegar. Vinegar can be diluted with equal parts water and splashed over minor burns. Any type of vinegar works, but distilled or white vinegar is best.

When to call a doctor for sunburn

A severe sunburn can be very taxing on your body. If you experience nausea, chills, fever, faintness, extensive blistering, general weakness, patches, of purple discoloration, or intense itching. Keep an eye out for the spreading of the burn, which may indicate an infection.
